This claim has - unsurprisingly! - been disputed by other manufacturers of the day,  and disagreements continue today over who exactly was the first. What is less controversial is that - even after over 100 years - Tibaldi continues to produce some of the coolest and most stylish pens out there, fusing urban streetstyle sensibilities with modern Italian high-fashion.
