Anyone who’s been following this blog will know we’re already very excited about the 100 year anniversary of Otto Hutt. The German artisans have already blown us away with their celebratory limited edition designC, but - ever the innovators - are not content stopping there. Now, they’re marking their centenary by revamping an old favourite. Let us present: the new design03.

After its two-year hiatus from our shelves, you might well wonder what changes have been made to the original design?

The angular features have made way for a more rounded design which echoes the classic cigar shaped profile favoured by pen manufacturers the world over. Gone are the geometric engravings on the cap of the predecessor, replaced by a sleeker, cleaner finish. In fact, the twistable caps of both ballpoint and pencil are gone altogether, replaced by a push-button retractable tip.

Despite having steered away from the use of sterling silver in the new design, the updated design03 utilises premium components to create a luxurious look and feel. The high-quality brass construction gives the pen a satisfying weighty feel in the hand and the contrasting finishes of the pen’s different elements – glossy, matt or satin – give an extra dimension to the pen's new profile.

A common thread running through all of Otto Hutt’s designs is a deep respect for their heritage coupled with creative contemporary flare. Unsurprisingly, the updated version of the design03 is no exception, taking its cues from the pared-down functionality of the Bauhaus movement, and updating them with 21st century manufacturing techniques and embellishments. The black and grey fountain pen models come with stylish matt black PVD-coated nibs, while the white and blue models are adorned with bi-colour steel nibs. Each pen is manually inspected for imperfections, and - as with all Otto Hutt writing instruments – is engraved with a unique six-digit serial number, marking out your pen as a unique one-of-a-kind piece of craftsmanship.

Simple but stylish, classic yet contemporary, beautifully designed and expertly engineered; the design03 perfectly highlights everything we already love about Otto Hutt. It is available as a fountain or a ballpoint in four different colour schemes to match your taste and preference - whatever you choose, we promise you won't be disappointed!
